This video, 36 minutes in length, teaches the fundamentals of authentic Cuban-style Salsa. This is not a beginner's video. Instead, it is designed for the dancer who is already familiar with some style of Salsa, and wants to learn this unique style.

The video starts off by showing dancing highlights in clubs.
Then, each couple demos their dancing for a minute and half each.
At the end are some more highlights of dancing in clubs including a high-energy rueda.

This first instructional video, explains the fundamentals of Cuban-Style Casino Salsa Dancing:

It is oriented towards showing what is unique about Cuban-style salsa dancing.
It assumes you are already familiar with salsa basics, such as counting, a basic step, and some basic turns.
Basic moves such as Hecho, Deshecho, Dile Que No, Exhibala, Vacilala, Panque, and much more are shown.
Explains concepts particular to Cuban-style salsa such as the woman traveling in circles around the man, woman's arm placement, shoulder angles, who marks time, and the basics of improvising.
The instruction goes as follows:
For each move, the instructors demonstrate it to music, executing the move twice with two different angles to the camera. Then, the move is broken down, with a voice counting the steps. On some moves, further explanation is given (by the instructors themselves) in Spanish. If you don't understand Spanish, there is (will be) a translation in the "The Guide to the Video" (see below.)

"My name is Jason Chan and I like to draw :)

I was born and raised in Stockton, California in 1983. After high school I moved out to San Francisco to study 3D animation at the Academy of Art University, but promptly changed my major to illustration and graduated in the Spring of 06. I am now working at Massive Black.

As I said, I love to draw. Ever since I was a kid I've always been drawing characters for make believe video games, cartoons and comics. I also loved drawing my favorite X-men characters, warcraft heroes, and video game sprites. I drew a million Mega Man and Mario drawings. As I grew up, that love for video games and fantasy never left me. I grew to love fantasy novels and that inspired my work. Many of my favorite video games were japanese made so as I drew the characters from those games. I began to fall for the anime style. Of course, that lead me to watch anime - an addiction I still haven't been able to shake. After a couple of years of horrible attempts at manga style art, I began school in San Francisco and actually got some decent life drawing and anatomy practice. I began to to be exposed to some of the western masters such as Sargent, Leyendecker, Rockwell, and Frazetta. I embraced the esthetics of western art and tried to improve myself in that direction. Now I am trying to marry my western art education with my eastern art interest and see what happens."

n this video Jason Chan walks the viewer through the creation of a sketch done entirely in Corel Painter. No thumbnails. No plans. He just gets in there and paints, revealing his thought process and revisions along the way. The resulting image turns out beautifully, and throughout the video he discusses all the important art principals necessary to achieve such an outcome. We hope you learn as much from this demo as we did.

A long time ago I was taught that when people look in certain directions, it indicated that the mind was accessing different parts of the brain to gather information. It turns out this was not correct. But it was during this time that I came across this unknown secret, if you will.

When two people are communicating and the eye contact is "consistent" and "useful" (those are elements that I define in the program and will not go into here) people feel significantly more comfortable when the other person "breaks" their eye contact by looking down instead of up. Not only did this turn out to be a liking issue but it is also is reported to be a trust issue. In other words, when people are breaking their eye contact up, up and to the left, eye level and to the right... the other person is responding negatively and not neutrally or positively.

I've had access to thousands of willing subjects over the last 11 years and I've had a chance to test ideas, quirks, techniques, everything. I've found out what matters and what doesn't. I've uncovered some truly spectacular nuances of behavior that make the difference between hearing "yes" or "no."

There are still all the gentle, firm admonitions to listen to your body, not to feel competitive with anyone else in how you do the pose (and as long as you heed them, you'll do fine). But Kest combines the classic warm-ups and longer-hold poses with a rapid succession of sun salutes, which will be gratifying to the advanced yoga student, but may make a first timer feel as though he dropped in to a Rockettes rehearsal by mistake. But if you keep at it, the workout is very easy to follow, and Kest's gentle, gruff voice is so soothing you find yourself relaxing even as you're pushing your body to its limits. As long as you keep in mind his personal mantra--"If you're doing the best you can, you're doing this class perfectly"--you and Kest should have many satisfying years of workouts together. --Anne Hurley
